For centuries the birth of a new baby was considered a communal event.
Still today, many cultures practice rituals that provide support and care for new mothers. Around the world, the “lying in period” is honored by supporting the mother so that she may take the time she needs to rest, recover from birth and bond with the baby.
In America, extended families and close knit communities are not as available to nurture the new mother. This lack of community is where your postpartum doula steps in; for parents to rest and get comfortable in this new life with a baby.
The word “doula” comes from the Greek word “a woman who serves”. A Postpartum Doula serves families during the 4th trimester (the first 3 months after the baby is born).

“Clarice was there every step of the way providing calm, confident support--friendly conversations, gentle suggestions, kind words, delicious meals, keeping up with the laundry, holding my baby so I could shower or sleep, riding along with us to appointments, and more."
Hi, my name is Clarice and I’m a Certified Postpartum Doula, PCD(DONA), Certified Breastfeeding Counselor (CBC) and Certified Postpartum Nutrition Professional (CPPNP). I also hold certification from the American Red Cross in Infant, Child and Adult CPR and First Aid.
The 4th trimester is full of joy and excitement but can also feel overwhelming and be a challenging transition time. Focus and attention is typically on the birth, but evidence shows that support during the postpartum time is critical for the new parents. I would love to help you adjust to your new role by providing physical and emotional support. My goal is to provide nurturing care so you can heal and recover from the birth experience and at the same time build confidence in your parenting abilities.
I am married and have 2 children and 5 grandchildren. I work serving Central Florida and Lake County Florida as well as Minneapolis and the Twin Cities area of Minnesota.
